Figure 1: Joana Beja, the new DMSC co-chair
The SOOS data management sub-committee (DMSC) is very pleased to announce that we have a new co-chair to lead our efforts in improving data sharing in the Southern Ocean. Joana Beja comes to us with extensive experience in managing oceanographic data at the British Oceanographic Data Centre (BODC), which she joined after finishing a degree in Environmental Engineering in her native Portugal. As BODC’s liaison person for the British Antarctic Survey, she comes to SOOS with experience in working across institutions, and brings considerable enthusiasm and energy to her new role. The DMSC has been ably led by Steve Diggs from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography for the past three years, but the increasing pace of activity within the committee has led to the need to share the load of chairing. We extend the warmest of welcomes to Jo in her new role.
